So yesterday I finally installed the backsplash behind our sink. We decided to add one last weekend because the water splashes onto the drywall pretty badly. After going to Home Depot I fell in love with these slate tiles. They make it incredibly easy nowadays to do little DIY projects like this. We bought these glue mats called SimpleMat and cut the sheets to the size of the tile space we planned to use. The tiles just stuck right to the mat, so we didn't need to use any mortar. Plus with no mortar, no waiting 24-48 hrs to start the grout. I was able to put up the tiles and grout in a few hours. We decided we liked it so much that I will wait to caulk the edges and we will do a 6 inch runner of these tiles and some bigger slate tiles (those come on tile mats too). So stay tuned for the finished product!
